I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo angry!! I volunteer (yes, that means for NO money - I benefit in no way whatsoever!) to teach kids at the local Junior School, where my 2 eldest kids go, to play the recorder. There are four of us who make time to go in and offer the lessons to the kids for free. I don't mind not being paid - I don't expect to get paid - the bottle of wine I get at the end of the year is a nice thank you gift, and my reward is hearing the kids at the end of year concert play what we have worked on over the year, and then have parents come up to us afterwards and say how they were so impressed, and that when all of the recorder kids played together, it gave them goosebumps - that is what it all means for me.
BUT (you knew there was going to be a 'but' in there somewhere, didn't you??!!) it makes me MAD when the teachers make it difficult for us to help by trying to tell us when we are going to go in and teach - hello, we have lives too - some of us even work - that is, paid work! To be told that kids cannot be taken out from lessons for a recorder lesson, when they are taken out of lessons for other instruments - which are taught by those teachers who get PAID - (in money, not bottles of wine!!!!) strikes me as just a little bit unfair.
Sorry, just had to get that out of my system and will now try to enjoy the weekend and not think about it!!!!

I totally agree Joy. And tbh with you i think that you should say - i can do this day only, and if you don't like it the kids don't get lessons. Even if that means my child doesn't get a lesson. You are a volunteer and should be treated with a little more respect than that.
